The human brain is an organ just like your heart and all your other organs, and you can only be as mentally healthy as your brain is functionally healthy.

Since 51% of the population will have a mental health issue at some point in life -- normal is a myth.

What is a mental disorder?

o Mental Disorder: A clinically significant disruption of a person’s thoughts, moods, behaviors, or ability to relate to others, that is severe enough to require treatment or intervention to help the individual function normally.

o The majority of individuals with mental disorders receive no treatment.

o One in four adults & about the same in children…have brain struggles (mental health) in any given year.

o 75% of all mental health issues begin before the age of 25.

o Half of these individuals have the disorder in place by age 14.

o The really sad thing is, it's actually 11 years from the time a child first has a mental health issue (depression, anxiety, panic attacks, eating problems)  before they actually seek help.

It is more normal to have an issue than to not have an issue .

Knowing your brain type  can help you understand what makes you uniquely happy or unhappy.

ADDICTION IS NOT A SINGLE OR SIMPLE DISORDER.

  • There are 6 Types identified by specific blood flow patterns in the brain.

  • Each type has a unique set of symptoms that respond to a customize d treatment plan.

Addiction Begins in the Brain

  • The brain is the supercomputer that runs everything in your life. It plays a central role in your vulnerability to addiction and your ability to recover and maintain sobriety.

  • Understanding the brain’s role in addiction, prevention, and treatment is the key to helping people break free from their addictions. Until then, they will continue to fuel their addictions with daily habits and actions that pollute the brain and make it even harder for them to break free from those addictions.

  • Overloaded work schedules, not getting enough sleep, and living with strained relationships all can lower brain function and make it more difficult to fight addiction.

  • Eating a fast-food diet, guzzling sugary sodas, and gobbling unhealthy snacks deprives the brain of proper nutrients, which decreases your ability to think clearly and make good decisions.

  • Isolating yourself from family and friends to hide your addiction also has a negative effect on your brain that can further intensify your addictive behaviors.

  • There is a difference between will driven behavior and brain driven behavior.

  • Will driven behavior comes from a healthy brain. It allows you to exert conscious choice over a situation to work in your own best interest.

  • Will driven behavior is goal directed productive and helps you reach the goals you have set for your life.

  • A damaged brain makes it much harder to control and direct behavior. It makes it more difficult to set goals and to plan and follow through on the actions necessary to achieve them.

  • Most addictions develop between ages 15-21.
